Where Can You Install Hardwood?

Where you want to install your new hardwood floors can impact the type of hardwood you will choose. For example, solid hardwood should only be installed in rooms that are cool, dry and have low traffic like bedrooms, living rooms and dining rooms. The layered construction of engineered hardwood means it is able to be installed in kitchens, hallways and even basements. So long as you care for your hardwood floors and do not continuously beat on them, they will last a long time in your home.

Hardwood should not be installed in places like bathrooms or laundry rooms due to the level of heat and moisture on a daily basis.

Solid vs Engineered Hardwood

Hardwood is available in a wide variety of options that cover different styles. The different types of wood species all range in durability, style, and even color. In terms of durability, some hardwoods are stronger than others. For example, oak and maple are two hard woods, and are great for families with an active lifestyle. Hardwood also comes in two different constructions including solid and engineered. One construction is not better than the other, there reason there are options is so you can choose the right hardwood for your home.

Solid hardwood flooring is considered the original wood flooring option, and features a simple construction, which allows for its natural characteristics to stand out. Solid hardwood comes in several different species and plank options which are typically 34/ in thick. Engineered hardwood features a modern layered construction made up of layers of real wood veneers that are pressed together cross-grain to create stability within the plank. Engineered hardwood comes in most of the same species as solid wood and is commonly mistaken as not real hardwood even though it is. Both solid and engineered hardwoods are available in similar colors and styles.
